What is a QR Code?
QR is short for Quick Response. This was first created by a Toyota subsidiary, in 1994 to track vehicles, these codes are now very popular outside of the automotive industry. They can be read quickly by a cell phone ,itouch, ipad or iphone and have a large storage capacity. Once you scan a code, it will take you very quickly to a URL address. You then, click to go to that URL to get more information.
This is what a QR Code looks like….I’m sure you’re starting to see them crop up all over the place! In advertisements, billboards, food packaging, etc.
Steps to creating your OWN QR Codes
Getting Started:
#1: Download: AT&T Scanner or any QR code scanner on an iphone, ipad2 (anything with a camera should work)
#2: WHERE do you want students to go to get more information? What website would you like them to go to? You need a URL to send your students to in order to use a QR code.
Creating your own QR Code!
#3: Go to the website you chose and copy the URL.
#4: Go to http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ so that you can paste your URL into the gray box and hit “Generate”.

This is what you will see now…..your very own QR code for this URL!
#5: You can now use this QR code in a Pages document for your student worksheet, to put into a parent newsletter, etc. Just copy and paste this QR code into your document
Always test out your QR Code to make sure it works before printing! Just hold up your QR scanner to your pages document and you’re ready to go!
