I recommend to everyone that they never scan something directly to another person's email address. The file is named something atrocious like SCANMONROE003241.pdf which is meaningless for anyone receiving it. You also can't include a short note about why you're sending the file. What it's referring to. Etc.

I highly recommend scans are always emailed to yourself, saved, then click on each scan and rename it appropriately. "5thGradeProject.pdf" or "KorpalJulyTimeSheet2010" or something else meaningful. Even if you don't want to do that, you can then forward the email you sent yourself with the scans to who you want to get it, with a note explaining what the attachments are. It's less perfect than having the attachments have good meaningful names, but at least it doesn't dump a bunch of documents into someone else's inbox without the details to know what they are.

I am using Edmodo this year- it provides MANY great features, the best of which is a library for each student that functions as an online dropbox - no flashdrives necessary! And paperless grading!

This really poses an interesting challenge for educators. Its clear our world is shifting ever more rapidly towards the digital delivery of content, but as educators should we teach them the comprehension and critical thinking skills (along with others) they lose on the internet? Or do we teach them to thrive and succeed in that online world? It seems almost contradictory to do both.

Either way, it looks as though I'll be adding this one to my reading list.

This sent me back to my notes from Dr. Bozeday's presentation. She advised that we need "to help kids use technology wisely in the classroom to promote in-depth learning."

Another site that offers searching lessons, tutorials, and online interactive activities that teach searching skills is the 21st Century Information Fluency Project. The interactive activities can be done by individual students or as a teacher led whole group activity.

Game Classroom looks like a great site for educational games and homework help. I'm sure it will be helpful in my 5th grade classroom. Thanks for the tip and keep up the good work!
